Project Ekerin-Ilewo (Under Construction)

Ekerin Ilewo like many rural areas, has long faced challenges in accessing safe drinking water. Residents often rely on distant or contaminated water sources, leading to health issues and hindering daily activities. Women and children bear the brunt of this burden, often spending hours each day fetching water instead of attending school or engaging in economic activities. Here is a picture of the water source the community currently relies on for drinking, cooking, washing, and all other daily needs. The condition of the water is deeply concerning, highlighting the urgent need for a sustainable solution to address this disheartening situation.

Our Project Goals

Our project aims to address these challenges by constructing a well-equipped, sustainable water system that will serve the entire community. The key components of this project include:

  1. Drilling a Deep Borehole: Ensuring a reliable water source that can provide clean water even during dry seasons.
  2. Installing Solar-Powered Pumps: Utilizing renewable energy to pump water, reducing operational costs and environmental impact.
  3. Building Storage Tanks: Ensuring that there is adequate water supply to meet the community’s daily needs.
  4. Creating Distribution Points: Installing multiple water distribution points throughout the community for easy access.
  5. Implementing Filtration Systems: Guaranteeing that the water is free from contaminants and safe for drinking.

Community Involvement

A critical aspect of our project is community involvement. We believe in empowering local residents to take ownership of the water system. Our team is working closely with community leaders and members to provide training on maintaining the infrastructure and managing water resources efficiently. This collaborative approach ensures the project’s sustainability and long-term success.

Progress So Far

Construction is progressing smoothly, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our team and local partners. The borehole drilling has been successfully completed, and we are currently in the process of installing the solar-powered pumps. Next, we will focus on setting up the storage tanks and distribution points.

Challenges and Solutions

As with any project, we have encountered a few challenges along the way, including logistical issues and unexpected geological conditions. However, our experienced team has been able to adapt and find solutions to keep the project on track. Our commitment to transparency means that we will continue to update you on our progress and any hurdles we overcome.

Looking Ahead

We are excited about the positive impact this project will have on Ekerin Ilewo. Once completed, the new water system will provide clean, safe water to over 300 residents, improving health outcomes, increasing school attendance, and empowering women to engage in more productive activities.
